Despite losing an early wicket, the result was inevitable as Anirudha Srikkanth took the fight to the bowlers.
With an all-round performance from the Karaikudi Kaalai’s with both batting and bowling, it was just a question of how big the margin of victory will be at the end. The Kanchi Veerans didn't help their cause by dropping catches and making mistakes on the field.
Fairly disciplined performance from the Kaalais after opting to field. They did leak a few in the death overs but still, would be quite pleased with their efforts.
The Veerans' innings never got going as wickets kept falling at regular intervals with only Vaidhya spending some kind of time at the crease. But even he couldn't convert it and at one stage, they were in danger of getting bowled out for a paltry total.
Cameos from the lower order has got them to some sort of respectability on a two-paced surface. Veerans are about 15-20 runs short of a par score but at least something to bowl at.
The Dragons made 185 like a piece of cake last night at this very ground. But the same pitch being used means that the track is a touch on the slower side.
Still good for batting though and unless the Veerans strike early in the Powerplay, this should be a comfortable chase for the Kaalai’s.
Brief Scores: Karaikudi Kaalai 142/6 (Anirudha 93*, Bafna 24; Sam 1/22) beat Kanchi Veerans 145/8 (Vishal Vaidhya 40, Sanjay Yadav 27; Mohan Prasath 2/17) by 8 wickets
