TNPL 2018: Lyca Kovai Kings demolish Chepauk Super Gillies by 53 runs

Defending champs Chepauk Super Gillies crash to their fourth straight defeat this season.

The Gillies started off badly and never could recover from their losses. Gillies during their powerplay could get only 28 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. 

Gillies' Uthirasamy Sasidev scored 23, Murugan Ashwin made 36 and skipper Gopinath got 14. Their batting unit completely failed with 8 players scoring single digit runs.

Earlier, Lyca Kovai Kings started strong courtesy of Shahrukh Khan's fourth consecutive half century and crossed the 155-run mark thanks to Antony Dhas's cameo.

The Kings started strong from the word go with the two opening batsmen Shahrukh Khan and skipper Abhinav Mukund putting on a 90 run stand. Shahrukh scored majority of the runs in the partnership making 59 runs off 45 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes, while Abhinav scored a conservative 34 runs off 35 balls with 4 fours to his tally.

The track showed signs of slowing down and variable bounce, the spinners of the Chepauk Super Gillies came together and strangled and the Kings by picking up four wickets in the space of 10 balls.

The Kings lost their way after starting strong and finally during the last three overs, picked up momentum scoring 37 runs of 18 balls.

Antony Dhas played a cameo smashing 28 runs off 21 balls with 3 fours and 1 six taking the kings over the 155-run mark.
