The tournament, which began on July 23, came to a close on Sunday. The event happened to be the selection tournament for the upcoming Asian Championship (Under-15/Under-17) at Myanmar in October. This is Sankar’s seventh successive podium finish in a National Ranking tournament and his third gold medal in the Under-15 category.
His purple patch started with a gold medal in Kakinada last year. He now has five golds from National Ranking tournaments, which includes the two gold medal finishes in the Under-13 category in 2016. He trains at Fireball Badminton Academy under the coaching guidance of S Aravindan.
