Boopalan not losing sleep over getting a game

S Boopalan was picked by Season 1 champion Tuti Patriots during the Player draft ahead of the 2018 Tamil Nadu Premier League, and although the tall left-arm spinner is yet to get a game this season, he is not losing sleep over it.

“We have two experienced left-arm spinners in R Sai Kishore and M Ganesh Moorthi, and both are doing well. That’s the reason why I haven’t got a chance yet,” said the 29-year-old.

Boopalan is a resident of Salem and plays for DSS Club in the TNCA third division and finished as the highest wicket-taker for his club in the previous season with 28 scalps. “I got picked in the TNPL this season based on my productive league season. I also attended trials with some of the TNPL franchises,” added Boopalan.

A late bloomer, Boopalan said he only began playing organised cricket at 22 years of age after moving to Chennai to do his graduation at the Sri Ramanujam Engineering College on the outskirts of Chennai. “Until then, I used to only play tennis ball cricket,” recollected Boopalan, who played TNCA senior division league before opting to play in the lower division for want of opportunities.

Boopalan is playing as a professional for the past four years. “My focus is solely cricket and I want to give my best. I have always been passionate about the game,” concluded Boopalan, who has represented Salem in the SS Rajan Trophy inter-district tournament.
