Rishabh Pant got to the milestone when he caught Kraigg Brathwaite off Ishant Sharma. The young Indian keeper took 11 Tests to the feat and overtook veteran MS Dhoni in the process, who had taken 15 Tests to get his 50th wicket-keeping dismissal.

Pant is now also the second-fastest keeper, alongside Adam Gilchrist, to have 50 dismissals. The fastest to the landmark is 10 Tests, by Mark Boucher, Jos Buttler and Tim Paine.

The young Indian wicket-keeper is the frontrunner in the race to become India’s permanent No. 4 and is also earmarked as MS Dhoni’s successor in all three formats of the game.

India captain Virat Kohli had also thrown his support behind Pant, saying the team is seeing the Delhi batsman as the ‘future’.

“We are looking at Rishabh as the future, definitely. He has got a lot of skill and talent,” Kohli had said. “It is about giving him a bit more space and ease himself into international cricket and not put toomuch pressure.”
