Tamil Nadu contains Karnataka on first day

In the battle of heavyweights at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu restricted Karnataka to 259 for 6.

Days after their meeting in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final, Karnataka won the toss and opted to bat. India opener Mayank Agarwal hit 43 but his opening partner Dega Nischal fell as early as the 4th over to K Vignesh. Rising batsman Devdutt Padikkal was once again the top-scorer for Karnataka as he made 78 from 182 balls.


Captain Karun Nair failed for 8 as he was run out by his Tamil Nadu counterpart Vijay Shankar.


Middle-order batsman Pavan Deshpande was looking set for a big score as he made a solid 65 only to be dismissed by India off-spinner R Ashwin.


Shreyas Gopal (35) and David Mathias (0) were unbeaten as Karnataka reached 259 for 6 in 94 overs in Dindigul.


Vidharbha makes fine start to title defence


Defending champion Vidarbha made a strong start to its campaign in the Elite Group A and B opener by shooting out Andhra for 211 in Vijayawada. Aditya Sarwate shone with 4 wickets and Rajneesh Gurbani picked up 3 as Vidharbha came up with a top-classbowling performance.


Captain Hanuma Vihari was the only bright spot for Andhra as he scored 83 from 155. Vidharbha was 26 for 0 at Stumps as Faiz Fazal, its captain, and Sanjay Raghunath, were unbeaten on 11 and14 respectively.

Snake entry delays Vidarbha vs Andhra Ranji game


In a bizarre incident, the start of a Ranji Trophy match between Vidarbha and Andhra on Monday was delayed by a few minutes after a snake entered the ground here. Vidarbha captain Faiz Fazal won the toss and elected to field.However, as the players made their way to the middle, a snake was spotted on the field and it resulted in a delay of few minutes. “SNAKE STOPS PLAY! There was a visitor on the field to delay the start of the match,” BCCI Domestic tweeted a 13-secondvideo. The official Twitter handle of BCCI Domestic posted a video in which the snake can be seen gliding on the field whileseven to eight groundsmen trying to ensure that itslithers away.
