Bangladesh players celebrate the fall of a South Africa wicket

After posting 261 for five in its 50 overs, Bangladesh bowled out the host for 157. The Bangladesh total was built on contributions from Tanzid Hasan’s 84-ball 80, Tawhid Hridoy’s 73-ball 51 and Shahadat Hossain’s unbeaten 76-ball 74. Bangladesh got off to a solid start adding 60 runs for the first wicket before Pheko Moletsane managed to trap Hossain in front.

South Africa got a second wicket and that was due to its good work on the field. The running between Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Tanzid was poor and it led to the run-out of the former.Tanzid dropped it short and hesitated to go for the single. Bowler Khumalo was on the ball in a flash, collected and effected the run out with a direct hit on the dive.

Tanzid helped Bangladesh recover from that period of pressure, bringing up his half-century and powering on. He pounced on anything loose, and was effective on both sides of the wicket. In 22 overs, Bangladesh was 112/2, with 69 of those runs coming from Tanzid Hasan.

When he looked set to get his hundred, Tanzid gifted his wicket. He received a fairly innocuous short and wide delivery, and he connected well, but he hit it straight to the fielder at point. Bangladesh needed some repair work at 130 for 3.

South Africa had its moments when it controlled the flow. Tawhid Hridoy and Shahadat Hossain put on 102 in 19.2 overs to help it reach a substantial total. Luke Beaufort was the only batsman who defied the Bangladesh bowling scoring 67. Rakibul Hasan returned impressive figures of five for 19 from 9.3 overs.

Brief scores: Bangladesh U-19 261/5 in 50 overs (T Hasan 80, T Hridoy 51,S Hossain 74) beat South Africa U-19 157 all out in 42.3 overs (L Beaufort 60, R Hasan 5/19) by 104 runs
