Asian Team Championships likely to go ahead, says Maniam
Despite the outbreak of Coronavirus in China and its neighbouring countries, the Asian Team Championships, scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) in March, will, in all likelihood, go as per schedule, according to Squash Rackets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) Director Major Maniam.

“Three days ago, representatives from SRAM met the Malaysian Ministry of Health. The ministry said we can go ahead with the event as long as participants come. The players and officials will be screened at the airport and if there is some cause for concern, a quick medical check-up will be done,” Maniam told reporters on the sidelines of the 77th SRFI Senior National Squash Championships here. “The message was sent to the Asian Squash Federation (ASF) on Thursday. ASF, in response, sent out a circular, which had all the participating nations. The continental body said the event is on until further notice,” added Maniam, who had been SRFI’s consultant coach.
World Squash Federation (WSF) Director of Coaching Maniam revealed India is the only country to have voiced out its concerns as of now. “India recently asked us if the event is on or off. After checking with the ministry, I responded in the affirmative. Apart from India, no one else has enquired us.”
Maniam said the organising committee will monitor the situation for the next few weeks.
