We’re determined to end trophy drought in Aus: Boult

New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult said the prospect of winning an ODI series in Australia in a long time will provide enough motivation to his team in the three-match ODI series. The 30-year-old said the Kiwis are brimming with confidence, after the recent series win over India, and would like to carry that momentum across the Tasman Sea as well.

Excerpts:

Is it this New Zealand’s best chance to win a series down under?

I think so. Yeah. I probably can’t tell you too many games I’ve won in Australia, which is a great place to play. We got pumped last time we went there, lost the World Cup and a few other times. So it’s been pretty dismal. I was really looking forward to that Test series, just being unfortunate to come home with an injury, but yeah, I just kind of like to get back in there.

You are coming back after an injury, will it be extra special because it is Australia?

I think it is extra special for a lot of reasons. At the time, it’s all excitement and anxiety and all those sorts of things going on. But yeah, we are all neighbours across the pitch. It’s a lot of history there and it’s always fun coming up and playing in Australia. Can’t wait to get on.

What do you think about the confidence in the team?

Probably not confidence, but I think there’s a lot of hunger and a lot of determination in this side to get over there and put in some decent performances. I think we should just get in there, give it a good crack and play the cricket that we know that works really well.

Speaking of the bowling attack, does that raise your confidence?

Yes. It’s nice to have a guy that can bowl 150 kmph and you know, spinners with the experience as well to back it up. So yeah, hopefully we can take a few wickets.
