Kohli would have been leading RCB in the 2020 edition of the T20 league had it not been for the coronavirus pandemic. The eight-team competition, which was scheduled to start on March 29, has been postponed indefinitely owing to the deadly virus.
“You do play all your tournaments, which is one team versus another. The ICC tournaments come every now and then, but even in those, you don’t really interact with the other team players or see the other teams so often,” Kohli told Star Sports.
“But in IPL, you are just probably meeting another team every second or third day. That is the beauty of IPL; you are playing in a different atmosphere.” RCB may not have enjoyed too much success in IPL thus far, but Kohli has shared the dressing room with some of the biggest names in the sport such as AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle and Daniel Vettori.
Kohli said the connection the franchises are able to create with fans of their cities also makes the event special. “I absolutely love the tournament also for the camaraderie which you share with so many new players that you play with, so many players that you have known for a long time now but not from your own country and those who you don’t see often. There is another reason why everyone loves IPL. There is a connection between the players, fans and viewers,” he said.
