During the fourth match of the IPL 2020 between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings the on-field umpire gave out to Tom Curran and as the striker was walking away the umpire went upstairs to review his decision. After seeing that the ball had not touched the bat and that the ball bounced before MS Dhoni caught, he recalled Tom curran withdrawing his earlier decision.
Dhoni protested this decision either stating the rule that the on-field umpire's decision was final unless he retracted his decision promptly or for a review for LBW as the ball might have hit Tom Curran's pad which also went unchecked by the umpires.
This also raised questions regarding the earlier match between Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab, when the on-field umpire refused to withdraw his decision of declaring a short run even after the replay showed that Chris Jordan's bat was inside the crease. It was stated that the run cost the KXIP the match as it led to Super Over which they lost.
KXIP's co-owners Ness Wadia and Preity Zinta had asked for this rule to be changed and requested optimum use of technology.
