The 31-year-old joins two-time ISL title-winner Chennaiyin from the Israel top division following the expiry of his contract at Hapoel Haifa FC. Sylvestr, who is the seventh and final overseas player of the club for the 2020-21 campaign, is set to become the first footballer from Slovakia to feature in India’s premier competition.
“I am really excited about signing for CFC and coming to India for the first time. This is quite a new adventure for me – new continent, new family, new way of life in the bio-bubble and playing football. I look forward to being with the team in Goa soon. I will put my best foot forward to help the club succeed,” Sylvestr said in a statement issued by Chennaiyin, which clinched the silver medal in the previous ISL edition.
Head coach Csaba Laszlo stated that Sylvestr would add the necessary attacking impetus to the CFC squad. “He has been in good goal-scoring form, especially the last few years. I am certain that he will carry that touch with him. I am excited to see him link up with our troops. Hopefully, he can create magic in front of the opponent’s goal,” said Laszlo.
Former Slovakia international Sylvestr is the final member of Chennaiyin’s overseas contingent, which also consists of Rafael Crivellaro, Eli Sabia, Memo Moura, Enes Sipovic, Esmael ‘Isma’ Goncalves and Fatkhulo Fatkhulloev.
