In a complaint she lodged with the Thudiyalur Police on Tuesday, Radha claimed that she and her husband K. Pandian were doing construction and other menial jobs for a living, when the landlord of the house where she was staying on rent offered her a cook’s job in Kerala for a week at Rs. 1,000 a day for a wedding. She claimed that she went to Kerala by train on November 12. Radha said that on reaching a lodge at Aluva the woman who took her there said that there was no wedding and that she has to cook for well to-do patients in a nearby private hospital (Sabeena Hospital). “I was suddenly made to undergo a few tests. There was no proper response for my questions. One of the nurses told me that they were trying to take out my eggs and sell it,” she alleged.
She added that due to her continuous protests she was beaten by three women and forcibly kept under confinement in the lodge. “My husband came in search of me as he could not reach me on my mobile. The assaulter beat him also and locked us in a room, before threatening and letting us go. We returned a week ago and after taking proper diet and gaining health I am lodging this complaint,” Radha added. After preliminary investigations, a senior police officer said that the woman is suspected to have gone there voluntarily to donate her eggs.
“However, tests seem to have revealed that she was unfit to donate. So, she was not given any money. She asked the other woman who accompanied her to share her money as she had donated her egg and got Rs. 15,000 for it. Since the other woman refused, Radha lodged a police complaint,” the officer said. “Coimbatore Police have gone to the hospital to verify the records and look into the allegations,” Superintendent of Police (SP) of Coimbatore District R.V. Ramya Bharati told DTNext.
