Licence of Thuraiyur gelatin unit suspended
The CB-CID police on December 3 arrested Vetrivel Explosive factory’s project director Prakasam and production manager Rajagopalan in connection with the December 1 blast at their unit in Thuraiyur killing 19 and injuring over 10 others.

They were produced before Judicial magistrate court VI and were lodged in the central prison. Earlier on day, the Joint Chief Controller of Explosive temporarily cancelled the licence of the explosive factory, even as the kin of the victims and villagers had been staging a series of demonstrations demanding the closure of the explosive factory that claimed 19 lives. While the rescue team still continues its search for victims caught underneath the debris, a special team along with the police are in the process of detecting and diffusing the explosives and the chemicals from the accident site. Meanwhile, District Collector K S Palanisamy has appointed the District Revenue Officer K Tharpagaraj as the investigative officer to probe the incident.
