Madurai man dies waiting to draw cash from bank

A 45 year old man who was waiting in a bank to withdraw cash from a public sector bank at Madurai, died on Thursday.

Annamalai, running a plastic shop here, had gone to the Vasanth Nagar branch of Canara Bank. According to eye witnesses, he had climbed to the first floor of the bank and had filled his cheque and bank challan after ascertaining the procedure. After waiting in the queue, he reportedly fainted. On being informed, the bank officials called 108 ambulance service which arrived soon. 

Paramedics rushed to the bank, but Annamalai died while being shifted to the ambulance. His family rushed to the spot on being informed. While some alleged that Annamalai waited in a long queue to get the money and hence suffered a heart attack, bank officials claimed that he took ill within minutes of reaching the bank. 

Officials claimed their CCTV footage showed Annamalai entering the bank at 10.34 am and fainting at 10.36 am. According to them the crowd had actually thinned in the morning.
