Leopard found dead in Nilgiris

Decomposed carcass of a male adult leopard was found in Barwood of O’Valley Range in Gudalur Forest Division, The Nilgiris, on December 12.

It is learnt that the animal was about 12-yearsold and could have died of old age. An autopsy was conducted to ascertain cause of death.

Mouse deer rescued 

An injured mouse deer was rescued by forest department officials at Pandalur. Forest officials said that it was a one-year-old female and was found alongside the road near Richmond in Pandalur Taluk. It had suffered an injury on its right hind leg. Forest department officials ruled out the possibility that the small animal could have been hit by a vehicle but it could have been attacked by another animal. It was treated for injuries and was under the care of the forest department. It would take a few days for the animal to recover, after which it will be released in the forest.
