More than 50 women associations from Tiruchy had come forward to condole the sudden demise of the former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. Though the federation could limit the participation with the office-bearers, those present recalled the late Chief Minister’s achievement as a woman and a leader. A few participating members even spoke about the connection between her and Tiruchy. They paid a tearful floral tribute to the late leader.
“She was an icon and role model for the women globally. Her brave nature had inspired the women. We in Tiruchy decided to organise a remembrance meeting for the late iron lady,” said S Sujatha ex-mayor who presided over the meeting. She said, though, the late Chief Minister belonged to a particular party, the organisers of the meeting saw her beyond any political party affinity.
“She was such a woman who had led the government and politics in a men dominated field and proved herself as an example for women who aspire to come up,” Sujatha said. Later, the Federation gave away educational assistance to students of Seva Sangam Girls’ Higher Secondary School as a token of respect to the late Jayalalithaa.
