The BJP leader expressed confidence that the Income Tax (IT) Department’s inquiry with former Chief Secretary would proceed in the right direction and expose all those involved in the illegal act.
Tamilisai Soundrarajan, who was on her way to Tirupur to meet the family of Dr Saravanan found dead in his apartment at Delhi in July this year, was talking told to reporters at the Coimbatore airport on Monday. Commenting on the prevailing political scenario in the State, she said,
“Jayalalithaa was a mass leader. Her demise has left a vacuum in the party and in the State.” There was nobody of Jayalalithaa’s capacity in the party or in the State to fill up the void caused by her death. Tamilisai strongly felt that the BJP alone can fill the gap as and reiterated that the party need not resort to cheap means to come to power as the saffron party as steadily growing in the State.
Regarding the tragedy at a cracker unit near Sattur, the State BJP chief said the incident on Monday that claimed four lives was the fifth such accident in a cracker unit in Virudhunagar district. “The deaths raise the suspicion whether the officials concerned conduct proper check of safety measures in cracker units before giving permission to them,” she said.
At this juncture she pressed for a specialty hospital to treat persons injured in accidents in cracker units. “It is a long pending demand of the people of that region,” she recalled. Later in the day, Tamilisai Soundararajan met and consoled the parents of Dr Saravanan in his native village Vellingadu, near Tirupur city.
“I will soon make a representation to the Home Minister (Rajnath Singh) in person seeking justice for the family. As a doctor I know how tough it is to get a higher education seat in AIIMS. There is no way a youth so determined to pursue higher studies to commit suicide.” She also promised to press for a CBI inquiry.
