Enraged over repeated snubs by the victim Anu Kency hailing from Chinnathurai, the accused Biju Kasro is said to have stabbed her in front of a church. Kency was rushed to a private hospital where she is still fighting for life. It is said that Biju had been following Kency for several months but in vain, and dejected over this he started harassing her in public places.

Following this, Kency filed a police complaint six months ago, after which Biju remained restrained for a while only to start stalking her again. Recently, the family of Kency decided on her wedding, and when Biju learnt that the marriage has been scheduled to be held on January 5, he is said to have become infuriated.

On Sunday, he followed Kency to the church in their village and stabbed her right in front of the church when she stepped out after the midnight prayer. Panic gripped the place and people ran helter-skelter fearing for life. However, when Biju tried to run away, he was chased and caught by other men. He was later handed over to Nithiravilai police who had arrested him.

The incident reminds the murder of Francina, a private school teacher at Thoothukudi, who was killed by Keegan Jose Gomez at the church premises for rejecting his proposal in August.
