Tamil university’s ‘Mazhalai Tamizh’ app to spread language among kids across globe

Thanjavur Tamil University has developed a mobile application ‘Mazhalai Tamizh’ to promote Tamil language among Tamil children living in non-Tamil speaking regions and countries. The app will be launched on January 26.

“After receiving recommendations to develop an app for children living in places other than Tamil Nadu, we decided to launch one. The app would help children pronounce and write through animation format,” the Vice-Chancellor G Bhaskaran said. “The App will be useful not only for the NRIs, but also living in other cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. It will be sent to all Tamil Sangams across the globe. For NRIs, the app will be sold at $2. It will be priced at Rs 100 for Indian residents,” Baskaran said.

One Student One Tree 

Meanwhile, the VC said that ‘One Student One Tree’ project, would be launched soon through which, a student would take care of a tree. This year around 450 students would be nurturing a tree in the campus. “A Tirukkural Garden with 1,330 couplets will also set up in the campus. An international yoga conference would be held in the University on March 10-11 with an objective of introducing some of the yoga concepts developed by Tamil Siddhars,  added the vice-Chancellor.

Karikal Chozhan awards 

He said “Karikal Chozhan awards” for the year 2016 would be given to a Sri Lankan Tamil Writer this year in aaddition to the Tamil Writers from Singapore and Malaysia. The ceremony for giving away the award, instituted by the Singapore Mustafa Trust, would be held at the Colombo Tamil Sangam on January 21.
