Pradeep Raja, a 36-yearold man from Mannar region in Sri Lanka, had landed at Arichalmunai and reached Danushkodi and had surrendered before the Danushkodi police, on Friday morning. In his statement he had claimed that in 2006 he had married Mary and they had two children (boys). Before two years they had a dispute and had separated.

The case is pending at the court but the family members of Mary had been physically harassing him and had attacked him in the past. Recently he had learnt that they were also trying to murder him. He had come to India in a fishing boat by paying Rs.60,000. He said the boat after dropping him off at Arichalmunai had sailed back to Sri Lanka. Though he had surrendered he did not have a valid passport to enter India. Hence, he was booked under The Passport Act and sources claimed that he was remanded and lodged in Puzhal prison.
