MGR family supports Sasikala

“Sasikala is the leader chosen by the party for the role of the general secretary. I completely endorse that and extend my full support to her. Our intention is that AIADMK should remain united,” she said. 

Speaking to reporters at a press meet held here to announce the unveiling of AIADMK founder’s statue at his Ramavaram Gardens residence, Sudha said that Sasikala was invited to unveil the renovated statue and that the she had also agreed to do so. 

“MGR’s statue was damaged during the December 2015 floods and when late CM Jayalalithaa came to know of it, she had agreed to renovate it at government expense and had also announced that she would unveil the renovated statue on January 17, his birth centenary. Now that she is no more, we requested Sasikala to unveil it,” Sudha said.

Reposing her faith on Sasikala taking on the mantle from Jayalalithaa, Sudha said that their main objective was that the party founded by MGR should not break apart. When asked about a section of party cadre wanting Jayalalithaa’s niece Deepa Jayakumar to head the party, Sudha said that while Deepa had never contacted in this regard. “If she did, I would advise her to join the AIADMK and work for the party instead of forming a separate party. Our wish is that AIADMK should remain united,” she said. 

When asked if she would be interested in joining AIADMK, Sudha said that she had no such plans and even if she did, she would join as an ordinary cadre and work for the party.
