Chief Minsiter, Sasikala pay tributes to M G Ramachandran
Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, led the State in paying rich tributes to AIADMK Founder and late Chief Minister Bharat Ratna MGR on his birth centenary on January 17.

Panneerselvam, accompanied by party MLAs and Ministers, garlanded the statue of MGR at the Dr MGR Medical University campus in Guindy and paid floral tributes. A special postage stamp was also released on the occasion.
At the party headquarters at Avvai Shanmugam Salai, AIADMK General Secretary V K Sasikala garlanded the statue of the Party Founder and released the MGR birth centenary special souvenir, the first copy of which was received by Party Presidium Chairman E Madhusudhanan.
Sasikala distributed welfare assistance to the tune of Rs 1.04 crore to 104 indigent members of the AIADMK Trade Union Anna Thozhir Sangam and distributed welfare measures on the occasion. Each of them were given Rs one lakh each.
Later, she visited the MGR’s Ramavaram residence where she unveiled a statue of MGR. In an epistle to the party workers on his birth centenary eve, Sasikala exhorted them to ensure that ‘enemies’ did not take advantage of the crisis created by the sudden demise of her predecessor and Party Supremo J Jayalalithaa.
Stating that no one could fill the void left behind by Jayalalithaa, she said she took over the reins of the party to ensure that the AIADMK, the third largest party in India, should not suffer a setback. Leaders of various political parties paid floral tributes to MGR statue on Anna Salai.
Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan, BJP State president Tamizhisai Soundararajan and MDMK General Secretary Vaiko garlanded the statue of MGR. At the TNCC Headquarters, its president Su Thirunavukkarasar paid tributes to a decorated portrait of MGR.
All over the State, AIADMK workers garlanded the statue of MGR and held functions to mark the occasion. In several parts of the city and suburbs, ardent MGR followers, paid floral tributes to the decorated portrait of MGR and Jayalalithaa. Sweets were distributed and mass feeding was organised. Thousands thronged the MGR and Jayalalithaa memorials on the Marina beach.
