Though scheduled to visit the MGR house at T Nagar around 6.30 am, she was late due to the heavy crowd of supporters who had come from various parts of the state anticipating her announcement about entering politics, “to save the AIADMK from the clutches of party general secretary V K Sasikala and her relatives,” as they claimed.

When she reached the T Nagar memorial, the compound gate was locked and so party men scaled the wall and succeeded in opening the gate for Deepa accompanied by her husband Madhavan to enter. From there she reached the MGR memorial on the Marina around 8 am but was unable to get out of the car due to the heavy rush of people.

The police were conspicuous by their absence. Finally, party men formed a human chain to allow Deepa who then walked up to the memorial, walked around it and then returned to her car.

Meanwhile, traffic was blocked by party cadres who indulged in a sudden road roko demanding police presence. When the police rushed to the spot belatedly, they were soundly abused by angry group of Deepa’s supporters.
