Protests, Rekla races held in Western Tamil Nadu
Jallikattu was cancelled in Koolaimedu village in Salem district. It was to be inaugurated by the State Highways Minister Edaipadi K. Palanisamy, Collector and officials.

Madurai
People denied permission to the Collector and other officials. They said that they would permit them to conduct the sport in their village only if a permanent solution was obtained without any hindrance by organizations like PeTA. The villagers told officials that they would hoist black flags atop their houses on Republic Day to express their disappointment. But the event was held at Malaiyampatty village near Keeripatty. Fifteen bulls including four temple bulls were released through the Vaadivasal. Close to 100 young bull tamers tried to tame the bulls that went on peacefully.
In Erode
In Erode, the BJP organised Jallikattu at Veerappampalayam. The party’s State Secretary Vanathi Srinivasan presided over the even. Thirteen bulls were brought to the event and a dozen youth tried to tame them. It was witnessed by around 1,000 people.0 But all was not well. Shortly before the third bull was released, close to 200 students who are involved in the pro-Jallikattu protests tried to stop the event. There was minor push and pull between the protestors and the police who tried to stop them, from entering the Jallikattu arena. They raised slogans against PeTA and the BJP government.
In Tirupur
In Tirupur District, Minister for Housing and Urban Development K. Radhakrishnan inaugurateda Rekla Race at Chinnavedampatti near Udumalpet. Only four pairs of bulls had come to take part in the event and they were stopped by protesters even before they raced a few metres.
Protests intensify
More than 35,000 students, youth and families took part in the pro-jallikattu protests for the sixth day in Coimbatore on Sunday. A train in Salem was blocked by students for the fourth day in succession. Thousands of students took part in the protest at the VOC Park Ground in Erode. As part of the protest, a section of them raised their voice against consumption of soft drinks marketed by MNCs. Some of the traders said protesters poured the soft drinks on the road at Hosur. Some of the protesters also donated blood for a patient who was undergoing treatment in the Salem Government super speciality hospital.
Ramadoss lists agenda in Guv address
PMK leader Ramadoss has listed a number of demands to be included in the Governor’s address which is scheduled for the budget session of the state assembly on Monday. He indicated that all the political parties wanted to establish Lokayukta in their election manifesto. This included the ruling AIADMK. But they are yet to deliver their promise, he said. He voiced for implementation of the seventh pay commission. He demanded a new scheme to arrest farmer suicide. The SC has ordered to remove Tasmac on the highways before March but there was no timetable and target to accomplish the task, Ramadoss stated. Moreover, the government should declare a specific date for execution of complete prohibition in the state besides arranging for alternative employment for 25,000 Tasmac employees in the state . He also demanded policy statements on location of AIIMS hospital in the state and a clear stand on NEET.
