The petitioner, Salai Sakkarapani, from Pudukottai district, claimed that in May 2014, Supreme Court had permanently banned jallikattu and one of the judges who gave the verdict was Radhakrishnan Panickar.
In 2015, PETA had given the award titled ‘PETA India’s Man of the Year’ to Radhakrishnan. By accepting the award Radhakrishnan had brought disgrace to the Indian Constitution and had not followed the pledge that he had made during his appointment.
Hence, the High Court should direct the retired Judge to return his award. The hearing for the case was taken up on Tuesday and Judges said that to judge whether the case could be taken up for hearing could be decided only after obtaining the view of the respondents and hence sent notice to Radhakrishnan, Secretary to President, Secretary to Law Ministry and to PETA. The case was adjourned to February 14.
