Three of family found dead in a house at Erode

In a suspected case of suicide over loan burden, a couple and their teenage daughter were found dead in their house at Uzhavan Nagar in NGGO Colony, Erode. Preliminary inquiry revealed that the family ended their life by consuming poison mixed with fruits and sweets.

Keerthana, Malathi, Ravichandran

The victims were identified as Ravichandran (53), a textile businessman, his wife Malathi (47), a homemaker, and their only daughter Keerthana (19) who was studying in a private college. The police said that Ravichandran was running the business with six partners for close to two decades. It is learnt that he suffered huge loss and obtained heavy loans to revive his business. 

According to the police, he could not repay the loans and the mounting pressure led them to the extreme step. A few days ago the family went to the house of Malathi’s sister Kalaiselvi in Erode and returned home a couple of days ago. 

Around 7 am on Thursday Kalaiselvi called her sister on her mobile phone but it was not answered. The mobile phones of Ravichandran and Keerthana were also not answered. Growing suspicious, the relatives rushed to Ravichandran’s house and was shocked to see them dead inside their rented house on the third floor of an apartment. 

While the women were found dead in the bedroom, Ravichandran was found dead in another room. Surampatti police retrieved the bodies and sent them to the Erode Government Hospital for post-mortem. The police said that they found a suicide note suspected to be written by Ravichandran that had a detailed account of persons for whom he had to repay loans to the tune of Rs 1.5 crore. A case was registered and further inquiry was underway.
