End impasse soon, Stalin urges Governor

The DMK working president in a letter to Ch Vidyasagar Rao on Friday said that the recent series of events had pushed the state into political and constitutional stalemate. As the Leader of Opposition, Stalin said that it was his responsibility to bring this worsening situation to the Governor’s notice. He further said that the internal rivalries in AIADMK, the ruling party, has led to the collapse of administrative machinery. 

“Because of their selfish pursuits, the welfare of people in the state has been greatly compromised in the last nine months,” Stalin added. “Just 48 hours after the election of the new legislature party leader and the Chief Minister tendering his resignation to enable Sasikala to become CM, Panneerselvam revealed to the utter shock of the people that it was obtained under duress,” he said. 

Referring to reports that AIADMK MLAs were being moved to undisclosed destinations and kept under constant vigil, the DMK working president said “the MLAs have to be given a chance to exercise their vote in accordance to their free will. 

Horse trading in any form has to be prevented.” Stalin demanded the Governor’s early intervention to ensure a democratically and constitutionally elected government was put in place through a free and fair floor test in total conformity with the constitutional provisions and also in accordance with the parameters laid down by the Supreme Court in the famous SR Bommai case. 

Saying that the state cannot be allowed to drift towards complete breakdown of administration, he added that an alternative govt is the need of the hour.
