‘List Immanuel birthday as government event’
A petition was filed to celebrate the birthday of freedom fighter Immanuvel Sekaran as government function at the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday.

Petitioner, Murugesan, from Thuvakudi in Tiruchy district, had claimed that people of Devendra Kula Vellalar community are spread throughout the state and freedom fighter Immanuvel Sekaran is seen as the representative of the community.
He was born on October 9,1924, and when he was 18 years old, he had participated in Quit India movement. However, when he was 33, he was murdered on September 11,1957, and every year, on his birthday, large number of leaders across the state visit his memorial and pay respect to him. When the birthday of other freedom fighters are celebrated as government function, the birthday of Immanuvel Sekaran which falls on October 9 should also be celebrated as government function, prayed the petitioner.
When the petition was heard, Judges had sent notice to Secretary to Home Department and adjourned the case on March 28.
