Two-day photo expo on smart streets in Kovai

A two-day photo expo on model smart streets proposed for the city as part of the smart city project was held at the Corporation Auditorium at RS Puram in Coimbatore on Saturday and Sunday. It was inaugurated by the Commissioner for Municipal Administration (CMA) G Prakash.

The expo elaborated on facilities needed on busy roads such as DB Road where the project will be implemented. It showcased that smart streets were aimed at providing footpaths and zebra crossings for pedestrians, lanes for vehicles, vehicle parking facilities and toilets. 

The CMA also discussed in detail about the status of the preliminary works underway for the smart city project in the city such as technology and transport, solar smart streets lights, garbage bins fitted with sensors, establishing nature parks, green spaces, medicine gardens, CCTV surveillance and using technology for making streets smarter. 

Prakash also discussed at length about the drinking water situation, efforts taken for improving drinking water supply and various works to be carried out to improve water supply by drilling 100 more borewells in the city. Earlier that day the CMA released a book on Smart Street Design and Management Policy. It was received by the Special Officer of Coimbatore Corporation and Managing Director of Smart City project K Vijayakarthikeyan.
