As directed by the PMK youth wing president Dr Anbumani Ramadoss, the party cadre led by  Deputy General Secretary Sridhar attempted to paste stickers at a TASMAC outlet in Karumandapam in Tiruchy.

Sridhar said that they have been advocating the closure of TASMAC shops across the state to ensure total prohibition in the state. The protestors said that despite a court directive to the state government to close down the liquor shops in key locations, the state government has been showing little interest in removing them.

“We have printed stickers which state that these shops function illegally and our aim to raise awareness among people”, said Sridhar. He added that the shops should be closed by March 31 failing which, the protests would be intensified. When they gathered near the outlets, the police rushed to the spot and arrested them. Anticipating the protest, several police personnel were deployed at three TASMAC outlets in Karumandapam. Similar protests were held across the delta districts.
