Protest intensifies against cola majors
Following the High Court direction allowing Pepsi and Coca Cola companies to draw water from Thamirabarani river, protests have intensified in Tirunelveli against the companies drawing water from the river.

Recently, Madurai Bench of Madras High Court dismissed the petition to ban water usage for Pepsi and Coke from Thamirabarani River, allowing the two cola majors to draw water from the river. The verdict had instantly triggered protest in Tirunelveli and has not shown signs of abating. On Sunday, people from all walks of life participated in the protests at various places. At Kokkirakulam near Tirunelveli Collector’s office, cadres attached to Tamilaga Makkal Jananayaga Katchi staged a protest by entering the Thamirabarani River and raising slogans. They shouted that they would not allow the companies to use Thamirabarani water. At Kurundhudayarpuram area in Tirunelveli, people and cadres attached to Tamilaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam staged a protest by standing in the Thamirabarani river. A number of children too took part in the protest.
