Family alleges foul play, seeks CBI probe

Raising suspicion over the circumstances under which research scholar J. Muthukrishnan was found hanging in Delhi on Monday, his family, friends and various organisations have sought CBI inquiry on his death.

Pressing this demand, his relatives and members of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) picketed Four Roads junction in Salem. It continued till 2 a.m. when revenue and police officials arrived on the spot, received their demands in writing and assured to forward it to the authorities. 

His mother J Alamelu said that her husband and daughters got calls from Muthukrishnan’s friends around 7 p.m. on Monday that he had committed suicide by hanging around 3 p.m. “We suspect foul play as there was a delay in sharing the information with us,” she said. The family was also not ready to believe that he committed suicide. “We suspect that he could have been killed and hung,” she added. 

His family said that they would not accept the body till the cause of his death was known. The family also demanded that the autopsy on the body should be conducted at the Salem Government Hospital to clear their doubts on his death. The protesters also sought help from the government to being the youth’s body to Salem.. They also sought compensation of Rs. 25 lakh for his family, considering their poor living conditions, and government jobs for all his three sisters based on their qualification.
