MAD Peravai functionaries back in AIADMK

The newly-formed and embattled MGR Amma Deepa Peravai floated by Deepa Jayakumar, niece of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa, suffered a setback on Monday when a section of the functionaries returned to the parent party of AIADMK.

The inductees, including the office-bearers of the Peravai units in Thanjavur, The Nilgiris and Pudukottai districts, re-joined the AIADMK in the presence of the party’s deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran here.

Deepa and her husband Madhavan have been making conflicting statements in the last few days and this led to confusion among her supporters about the future course of the MAD Peravai. It may be recalled that Deepa’s husband floated a new political outfit a few days ago claiming that ‘evil forces’ were controlling Deepa.

Later, Deepa issued a statement blaming Sasikala’s family for trying to create a divide in the Peravai. Deepa even told DTNext that she received reports that K Soundararajan, a former minister of MGR cabinet, was behind the move to divide her camp.

Meanwhile, Soundararajan met supporters in Tiruchy on Sunday and revealed that he planned to join the former chief minister O Panneerselvam’s faction with his supporters. He said Deepa was making conflicting statements on vital issues and moreover there were problems even in nominating office-bearers for the Peravai.

When asked about the developments in the MAD Peravai, OPS group member and former minister C Ponnaiyan optimistically said, “A large number of MAD Peravai members may join us from all the 32 districts in the state in a day or two.”

Dinakaran forms 2 panels
Setting the stage for the RK Nagar by-election campaign, AIADMK deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran formed two 7-member committees with ministers on Monday. One will look after poll-related works with like-minded parties and another for coordinating the campaign with star speakers.
