LPG blast triggers UFO scare in Vellore village

Vellorians are yet to get over their fixation on UFO sightings and their tendency to relate anything that blasts over their roofs with mysterious flying objects was brought to the fore on Friday when a blast was mistake for yet another encounter of the third kind.

Phones were continuously ringing on Friday morning, when a minor blast took place inside a house in small village in Vellore. People called upon their neighbours to verify if another flying object had crash-landed. 

Local TV channels went to town with the news about a suspected UFO crash as the cause behind the blast, in which a woman had suffered minor injuries. Later, the story was slightly altered and the object of suspicion was said to be a meteor. Later in the day, the police stepped in to investigate and found that the blast was caused by a LPG leak. 

“The UFO angle was a rumour that was spread by the locals. There was LPG leak in the connection tube and the family went to sleep on Thursday night without realising it. The blast happened on Friday morning due to a spark and a woman suffered minor injuries in the mishap,” Vellore SP Pakalavan told DTNext

Representatives from the oil distribution company also visited the spot and confirmed that it as a LPG blast putting the speculation and discussion on UFOs to rest.
