Following the protest near the Collectorate bus stop, the traffic on Tiruchy-Thanjavur Highway had to be regulated near the protest venue.

P Maniyarasan, the convener of CRRC said, “The is a danger of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) being dissolved. The move will further delay justice being rendered to the people of Tamil Nadu. The tribunal has been hearing the Cauvery water disputes for the past 27 years.”

He added that the protest would continue till the state government orders an immediate ban on sand mining in the rivers of the state and waiver of all crop loans of the farmers.

He further said that the government should increase the compensation for the crop loss to Rs 25,000 per acre, Rs 15,000 per acre for land left fallow due to the non-availability of water and Rs 15 lakh each for the families of the farmers who committed suicide.

Meanwhile, farmers from 15 villages coming under Ramapuram firkha including Mathur, Tiruvedukudi, Thottakkadu, Manankorai, Thandankorai, Nallichery, Thittai congregated at Nedar bus stop on the main road and staged a road blockade. They said their villages were totally left out of drought enumeration and hence, the farmers did not get the compensation. Due to the protest, traffic was affected for over half-an-hour.
