Former minister, DMK bigwig and MLA, KN Nehru’s brother Ramajayam was found dead on the banks of the Cauvery river in Tiruchy after he went for a morning walk on March 29, 2012. The Thillainagar police registered a case and were investigating. Nehru and his relatives and party functionaries demanded for an inquiry by CB-CID and it was transferred on June 22, 2012. As there was no progress in investigations even after years, Ramajayam’s widow Latha moved the Madurai Bench of Madras High court in December 11, 2014 seeking a CBI probe. The court then directed the CB-CID to speed up investigations.

Meanwhile, the investigating officials had accelerated the investigation and as a part of which around 177 witnesses were interrogated and the agency decided to conduct a narco analysis test to a few including Ramajayam’s close associates Gopal, Nandhakumar and Shanmugam.

The investigating agency added several special teams but they could not move further. Still the CBCID agency had been requesting time from the court.

Sources close to KN Nehru said that the former minister was dejected over the delay. “Whenever, someone talks about his brother Ramajayam, Nehru would break down. Recently, he had faced a series of obstacles in his personal and political career. Had “MD’ (Ramajayam who is referred by the DMK men) was with him, he would be able to overcome any obstacle, one of the supporters of Nehru said.
