2 from Prabhu Deva film crew killed in accident

Two members of a film crew were killed and five others injured when the van in which they were travelling was hit by a blue metal-laden lorry near Papanasam in Thanjavur district during the early hours on March 31.

Sources said, a film crew has been shooting the Tamil film “Yung Mung Chang” starring Prabhu Deva, Thangarbachan, Lakshmi Menon and others in Kumbakonam and its surrounding areas for the past 15 days.

On Friday, it is said that the shooting was scheduled at Ayyarappar temple in Tiruvaiyaru. Most of the crew members left for the spot in the early hours. A crew carrying breakfast left for the shooting location from Kumbakonam in a van. 

Meanwhile, a lorry loaded with blue metal bound for Perambalur collided with the van at Karuppur village near Kabisthalam on Kumbakonam-Tiruvaiyaru Road. P Vijayakumar (43) of Othakulam of Sakkottai near Kumbakonam, the driver of the van and Arumugam (53) of Chennai, one of the crew members, were killed on the spot. 

Similarly, Suresh, Chellappa, Mohan, Murthy and Tamilarasi, members of the catering wing of the crew, who suffered serious injuries, were rushed to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital. The Kabistalam police have registered a case and are investigating.
