The one-year-old baby Premkumar was earlier admitted to the Palani GH for fever. He went missing on the early hours of Tuesday and the woman who occupied the bed next the boy too was missing from the hospital. Police suspected that the woman should have lifted the baby.

On Wednesday, one Samsudeen complained to police that his wife Sajitha Begum who was admitted in the GH was missing. He requested the police to search for her. Armed with the details of the woman, police intensified the search operations across the district including the railway station and bus stand.

In the early hours of Wednesday, police spotted a woman standing suspiciously with a baby at Palani bus stand. On interrogation, police found her to be Sajitha Begum and rescued Premkumar from her. However, police personnel were at a loss to know the exact reason why Sajitha, who has two daughters, kidnapped the baby.

Meanwhile in the Tiruchy Central bus stand, police found an abandoned 10-day old male baby. The baby was found to be quite healthy. Police said that a woman who went to the breastfeeding enclosure at the bus stand around noon saw the male baby wrapped in a white towel. She waited for a few minutes thinking that the mother of the child would have gone to ease herself. However, no one turned up even after a long time. She alerted the sanitary staff in the enclosure and who in turn informed her supervisor Anandan. The official announced over the speakers about the baby. But no one came to claim the infant.

Subsequently, the supervisor handed over the baby to the police, who took the child to the GH. The hospital authorities handed over the healthy child to the cradle baby scheme.
