Neduvasal: Locals to besiege collectorates
The residents of Neduvasal and 100 villages adjacent to the district have decided to besiege both the Thanjavur and the Pudukkottai Collectorates prior to resuming their indefinite strike against the extraction of the hydrocarbon project. The decison was taken at the coordination meeting but the date of the protest is yet to be decided.

On Saturday, a consultative meeting was organised at Neduvasal to garner the locals’ response regarding the hydrocarbon project. The meeting was held in the presence of former legislators S Swaminathan, T Pushparaj and S Rajasekaran. Over 1,000 residents of Neduvasal and 100 adjacent villages located nearby participated and put forth their points. A common consensus regarding a single location to be earmarked for the protest was reached.
Over seven resolutions were passed at the meeting. According to a resolution which condemned the signing of the Union government’s MoU with Gem laboratories to extract hydrocarbon in Neduvasal region, residents of all the 100 villages would hoist black flags atop their houses and commercial establishments as a mark of protest.
The resolutions adopted in the Gram Sabha meeting held on March 31 would be sent to all government department. A coordination committee would be formed in each of the 100 villages as well, a source said.
