Protests in Tiruchy leave officials in a fix

After the relocation of Tasmac outlets from the highways as per the direction of the Apex Court, officials have been trying to restore order against protests by the residents who are against establishing the outlets in their areas.

Tasmac officials said that they have been witnessing protests for all relocated outlets. On Friday night, the residents of Ganesapuram in Ponmalai organised a stir against a proposed Tasmac outlet in their residential area when the officials attempted to open one there. The protest continued till the wee hours of Saturday. A heavy police posse has been deputed there. 

Meanwhile on Saturday, residents of Devadhanam, opposed the opening of a liquor shop in their area. Similarly, residents of Ambikapuram where a burial ground is also located, prevented the opening of another outlet. They staged a novel protest by using a mock corpse and staged a ‘oppari’ sit-in near the proposed shop.
