Weaker sections must apply online for Right To Education quota

The state government has called for those belonging to the economically weaker sections and deprived communities to apply online for inclusion through the RTE (Right To Education) Act in the ensuing financial year, a government release states.

The state has allotted Rs.125 crore for the welfare of those admitted in 2013-14 and 2014-15 and continuing their education in 2015-16 and for those admitted in 2015-16, the release added. Those eligible can apply for the 1,26,262 vacancies which constitute 25 per cent of seats in matriculation and elementary and primary schools in 9000 non-minority aided self-financing institutions for 201718 education year, it added. 

Applications can be made online through www.dge.tn.gov.in between April 20 and May 18 and results of successful applications would be sent as an SMS to the applicant’s mobile phone, it added. Arrangements would be made in all CEOs, DEOs, AEOs, inspectors of matriculation schools, DEEOs office to help apply free of cost. Similar arrangements would also be made in the more than 10,000 e seva centres in TN, the release added.

If a school receives more applications than the total number of available seats, candidates would be chosen through lots supervised by the education department officials and those chosen by the district collector. However, priority would be given – before resorting to lots - to applications received from third genders, HIV positive, destitutes and wards of sanitary staff, it added.
