The records can be accessed by both victims and the accused. The Madras High Court directed the police to submit a detailed accident report (DAR) for all road accident cases before the Claims Tribunals and to share the same with insurance companies, victims and the accused. Following the order, the State Crime Records Bureau added an online facility to the Tamil Nadu police website to share DAR with Claims Tribunals on March 29 and was later made available to insurance companies on a fee of Rs 100, on April 11.

To prepare the DAR, all police stations commenced uploading the road accident data to the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS) on March 1. A statement released by the government stated that documents required as per the DAR for cases registered and charge sheeted post March 1, 2017 would be made available online.

The victims and the accused must wait until June 30 to access this facility as this section is now under development, the release added.
