Departmental probe into assault on women by ADSP begins

On Tuesday evening, Additional Superintendent of Police (ADSP) A Pandiarajan had assaulted them while they were protesting against the new TASMAC shop. The DIG said, “the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Coimbatore District RV Ramya Bharati will conduct the inquiry and submit a report to me in three days (this weekend).” During the inquiry, the SP will get the statement of the officer and police personnel concerned and from the victims as well, he said. Damor added that based on the report, departmental action would be initiated against the ADSP.

He also said that the police officer and personnel, who were alleged to have assaulted the women and other protesters, claimed that the protesters laid siege to the car of the (Sulur) MLA, who was passing that way and pelted stones on the police vehicles and policemen, due to which they were forced to resort to a mild use of force to bring the situation under control. 

Meanwhile, various organisations protested the attack on the women in Coimbatore, Tirupur and Salem on Thursday. At Tirupur, members of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) went in a procession from Mangalam Four Roads junction to Mangalam Police Station raising slogans condemning the policemen. 

Members of Coimbatore Women Advocates Association too staged a demonstration on the issue.
