Opposed:
With protests everywhere for opening new TASMAC outlets, any new construction using hollow blocks at a quick pace with a fiber roof is feared to be a TASMAC outlet. “We will completely litter this place if it is a TASMAC outlet,” said many Tamil printouts affixed on the walls of a hollow block structure near the bridge under construction at SIHS Colony in Coimbatore. It showed how strongly people were alert against liquor outlets.
Residents of the locality said that they were annoyed over the structure being erected till the roof in just two days. On Sunday the posters were removed and a flex banner stating that it is a waste paper mart along with the contact number of the person concerned were kept on the wall. It gave a sigh of relief to the residents and those constructing it as well. However, residents said they would ensure itd closure if it was a Tasmac outlet.
Protest:
At Salem city, members of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) picketed a TASMAC outlet at Swarnapuri area that was functioning at a distance of less than 100 metres from the highway. Protesters left the place after the Tahsildar gave an assurance that the shop would be closed.
