A Rani, a state board student, said, “I had joined a crash course in April and with the exams round the corner, the training centre is providing us with model papers. This has boosted my confidence level.”

A few students are also opting for online mock courses. “I go to the NEET training institute at 9 am and study for the rest of the day. In the evening, I take an online mock test,” said Chirag J, who has been going to regular classes since the beginning of the year.

Coaching institutions are also leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the students are well-prepared. “We have been conducting mock tests every day since April. We also solve all the questions in the mock papers,” said Nagasurya Teja, an admin of Jupiter Education.

Many state-board students feel that they are at a disadvantage when compared to those in CBSE and ICSE board. Nagasurya added, “In subjects like physics, state board students are made to focus on the theory unlike CBSE students who have been made to solve problems in class 11 and 12. So from day one, we have made students practise problems. The concepts are the same and it is only a matter of practice. The model tests also help them to understand the kind of questions that are likely to be asked. They also learn about time management.”

Meanwhile, protests continued across the city seeking exemption from NEET for Tamil Nadu students.
