Madurai Division earns Rs 738 crore

The Madurai Division of Southern Railway earned Rs 738.08 crore revenue for the year 2016-17, claimed officials of the Railway department at Madurai.

They said that out of the total earnings, passenger earnings were the highest as it stood at Rs 463.17 crore. This was higher compared to the previous year’s revenue of Rs 440.82 crore. In freight transport, Madurai Division loaded 1.7 million tonnes of goods last year and earned Rs 211.40 crore. 

Ticket checking drives: 

By conducting ticket checking drives against passengers travelling without proper tickets, the Division had earned Rs 2.66 crore in the same period and other miscellaneous earnings stood at Rs 63.51 crore. The main reason for the increased revenue in Madurai Division is providing punctual service to passengers. 

The Division maintained punctuality of Express and passenger trains and ensured 97.2% for Express and Mail trains and 96.1 % for passenger trains.
