Narendra Modi to open Kalam memorial on July 27
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the memorial of APJ Abdul Kalam at Peikarumbu near Rameswaram on July 27 to mark the second death anniversary of the former President.

Modi will also inaugurate the road connecting Dhanushkodi and lay the foundation for the four-lane road from Ramanathapuram to Rameswaram. After Kalam’s death, the Centre announced that a memorial and knowledge centre would be constructed around the burial spot at a cost of Rs 50 crore. Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) was entrusted with the task.
Rs 15 crore was earmarked for the construction of the memorial and Rs 35 crore for the knowledge centre. On the first death anniversary of Kalam, his bronze statue was unveiled.
DRDO officials were committed to complete the memorial before Kalam’s second anniversary. Officials at Ramanathapuram district said that Narendra Modi had confirmed that he would take part in the inauguration ceremony.
The memorial would showcase Kalam’s photos, clothes, books, replica of the rockets and missiles designed by him and other objects related to his life. After the memorial is inaugurated, the work for knowledge centre would commence. Modi is set to inaugurate the 9.5-kilometre road from Mukutharayapuram to Arichalmunai in Dhanushkodi that was constructed at a cost of Rs 50 crore to promote tourism.
