Posters, Dinakaran Peravai crop up in Delta
The sudden spurt in support for TTV Dinakaran, AIADMK(Amma) deputy general secretary, in the Delta districts, has surprised the public and cadre alike. Posters, in the name of Dinakaran Peravai, condemning his arrest in Election Commission bribery case, were seen in Thanjavur and Mannargudi areas in the past two days.

Residents said that they have not seen a single poster for Dinakaran all these days and the Dinakaran Peravai, too was unheard of till now. Though the AIADMK cadre were known for inflicting self-punishments and pasting of posters condemning the arrests of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa earlier, they did nothing of those sorts when VK Sasikala went to prison this February.
“Though there are more sympathisers for Sasikala and her family in Thanjavur and Mannargudi, we have not seen a single poster in support of her when she was sent to the Bengaluru prison,” said Kanagaraj, a resident of Thanjavur town.
In this backdrop, the sudden outpouring of support for arrested Dinakaran in his ancestral place, which he seldom visits, has surprised and confounded the residents.
Moreover, the new outfit Dinakaran Peravai announced in the posters that he would emerge victorious after defeating all the obstacles, like the cases against him.
Residents wondered for what the posters have cropped up in the first place and to whom the message is meant for. Political observers feel that the posters were meant to send a strong message across to Sasikala’s brother Dhivakaran and her husband M Natarajan, that Dinakaran has his own support base.
“No peravais have been formed in the names of the family members, except Sasikala (Chinnamma Peravai). The sudden regrouping in the name of Dinakaran is either to show his hold on the party or a warning to other family members,” opined an observer on condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, a few big banners and posters supporting Dinakaran, which were displayed on Tuesday night, went missing.
