Officials elaborate that the flower show would be conducted on the first two days, on May 20 and 21, by the Horticulture department. As these two days fall during the weekend they expect a large number of visitors to the show.

It is said the Rose garden and the Glass House which have several plant varieties would be major crowd pullers at the flower show. The Glass House has been recently renovated and several new plant varieties have been added for the festival.

As most of the visitors come in four wheelers, there is a dire need to accommodate the large number of vehicles that are expected to find their way to the park. Therefore, special arrangements have been made by the authorities to accommodate as many vehicles as possible near the park area. There are plans to conduct different kinds of competitions for tourists. Athletic events would also be arranged.

To manage the crowd, extra buses to Kodaikanal have been arranged by the district administration and Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation(TNSTC) from Dindigul, Madurai, Palani and Batlagundu. Local special transport service has also been arranged for the visitors to visit the local popular tourist spots.

Water scarcity

This year, owing to water scarcity special care has been taken to meet the drinking water and sanitary needs of the tourists. Of late, Kodaikanal has been facing from acute drinking water shortage but the recent rain and the strict activities of Kodaikanal Municipality such as seizure of water lorries drawing water illegally from the lake have improved the situation to some extent.

To tighten security, CCTV cameras have been installed in strategic tourist locations to monitor the crowd movement and prevent thefts.

Kodaikanal is one of the famous hill stations in the state and is termed as the ‘Princess of Hill Stations’ for its pristine environment. It is one of the favourite destinations for tourists in summer.

The flower show, especially, conducted in summer every year, draws a lot of visitors.
